Water Hammer

Notice that when the 350/330 crate mtr, (Vortec head) that's in the Monte, is fully warmed up after a 25 mile run to work, the heater hose coming from the water pump is pulsating.

Anybody else ever see a water hammer type effect on their SBC?

Check for water in your oil & do a compression test. Sounds remotely like a bad head gasket...

X2^^, Air pocket in system creating steam or compression leaking into coolant.

It probably isn't the culprit, but it's cheap enough to replace anyways to find out. 8)

just throwing it in there as a possibility, but maybe your thermostat spring is broken and the water moving through is causing the diaphragm to pulse, ie, making the water flow start and stop as it opens and shuts. if you pull the system apart to look for problems, consider using an lt1 style waterneck if it will fit(probably not) since it has a small bleed screw that you can use to release air pockets if that is indeed the problem.

It was a bad a radiator cap. It was less than a year.
