what trans did it come with

trying to figure out if my car had a long tail or short tail turbo 350 in it....this is my first malibu and i bought it as a roller....time to buy a trans and kinda need to know what to look for??? Its a 79 year model

Should have a Short Tail.
Vsix has a pair of TH350s for sale in Parts section but, S/H to Tx $$. He's in Pa.

Hey. In 1979 The Malibu with a automatic came from the factory with TH200, TH250 and the TH350. All where short shaft units. All used the same cross member. The TH350 is the best trans for your Malibu. Doug

originally i was gonna run a glide but decided to put a turbo 350 in it with all the goodies for street cruising....I have a long tail turbo 350 but a friend does have a short tail ill go pick it up from him. Thanks guys

Hey. You could have your drive shaft shortened three inches for your TH350, Of course I assume yours has a six inch shaft. Doug

My 79 came with a short tail 350th also. Did anyone elses car have the weird offset trans mount?

The offset transmission mount was used in V6 cars.

I see. Thats what mine was. Thanks. Since I already have my exhaust on the car(it was done 10 yrs ago) and it runs under the trans ,is there a way to strengthen up the mount?

A V8 crossmember is a direct swap, but requires the V8 mount.
