I have a 78 BU and just replaced the 7.5 rear end for the 8.5 10 bolt rear end. I'm looking for some wheels and tires now, and don't know what the best idea is. I'm hoping I can get some folks to post what they are using. The car is only gonna be used on the strip, and I want as big of tire as I can fit, without having to notch the frame. I don't care about having to shave the fender lip, I may do that anyways. I also don't want the car to sit high in the back end, so I will try to find a lowering spring set up to help with that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

with a 15x8 wheel with 3.75 in backspace, a 29.5x10.5x15 will fit, but you wont be able to drop the rearend much.

Roll or cut the fender lip. Use a 8" wide wheel with 4" backspacing, you will be able to run a 275/50 (26" Tall, 10" tread) or a 275/60 (28" tall, 9" tread) drag radial without problems.

This is a 26/11.50-15 ET Street up in the fender car lowered 2-3 inches.

I would trim and roll the lip, one less thing to worry about. I believe a 28X11.5 ET Street would fit nicely if you want to run slicks. Good luck with it, and keep us posted.

I would at least roll the lip. On my car right know the lip is rolled cause it was a street car, but I am in the middle of a full notch for 325/50 drag radials, and when I'm done the lip will be fully cut out and the stock inner fenderwell will also be gone. If you drive your car on the street and think your tire will ever hit the fender lip, I would suggest only rolling it cause it give a little smoother surface to hit the tire instead of a sharp cut edge. If you stay with an 8" wide wheel with a 4" backspace you shouldn't have any problems with a 275/60 tire. A 295/50 will also fit with this wheel but is a little more tight.
