Where did you guys find your LS motors?

I was just curious where you guys had the best luck finding your LS motor. Of course locally would be best since I could go pick it up, but have not seen much around me on craigslist, ls1tech, yellowbullet, etc. I was thinking of either calling some of these salvage yards like Cleveland Pick a Part because they will send you a video of the motor running (hopefully it is the same motor you are buying ) wrap it up on a pallet and ship.

The other thought was to just stop by some local junk yards, but there probably wouldn't be much of a way of telling the condition of the motors internals without breaking it down.

I am just looking for a 5.3 now with harness and computer. Stuck on whether or not to mess with the harness, send it out or just go with the Big Stuff setup to learn with since I plan on changing over to a turbo shortly after having a little fun on the street.

www.craigslist.com find something local to you that way if its wrong then you can always return it or get what you need/make sure what you want and need are there. With that said, when you search for it, you may want to type in 5.3L or vortec or say the truck it came from. There was one for sale here on craigslist, but the only way to find it was to type avalanche. Examples:

Or you can always go with ebay and just find whats closest to you. I bought a 2002 lq9 motor w/ trans and 70k miles on it off of ebay and had it shipped to the door for 2300. The only thing it didn't have was front end accessories but I wanted to change to car style anyway.

got mine from work ,06 corvette with paxton charger on it methonal injection didnt work and cracked 2 pistons paid $300. for it,had 8 new pistons replaced put back together i have $500.in it now need oil pan/intake computor and im set.

I have been hoping to score something off CL since it would be easy picking it up locally with my truck (no extra shipping costs). Couple of the places on car-part.com are within an hour or so, so I will make a couple of calls and keep checking CL.
