Well, I was going to purchase an LS motor months ago, but we really slowed down at work and I was surprised when my wife came to my one day and said "I'm pregnant"

We are chugging along a little better now and I cannot keep putting this off, I need a motor now. Of course the great deals are never out there when I am ready to make a purchase. I checked the usual places (craigslist, ebay, car-parts. com, etc) and have found a few 6.0s for $800 or so, but have found they also need a $200 core fee and do not include ecm, harness, accessories, most not even an intake. They are also over 100k miles which does not bother me as much on these motors as they seem to go forever.

I have 2 places that have recently emailed me what they have, was curious what you guys thought. (each one does not include shipping, so figure another $200) I wanted an 01-02 6.0 so I had DBC instead of DBW, but I can deal with that if necessary.

1. a 1999 6.0 with 4L80E trans for $1600 no harness, ecm or accessories (not sure on miles)
2. a 2005 6.0 with everything (including harness, ecm, gas pedal, all accessories) for $2150 (94k miles)
3. a 2003 5.3 without harness, ecm, but has assessories for $800 (130k miles)
4. None of the above.

I remember reading people getting 5.3s for like $500 and 6.0s for $1000, but maybe those were long blocks only, maybe needed to be rebuilt.

I plan to have a little fun with the motor, probably change the cam and learn how to tune on this motor, then eventually throw a little boost towards it.

If I were you, I'd stop into the local yard and talk to someone. With times being kinda tight, they may deal more in person. Tell them what your doing, what you need and you have no core and see what they can do. Worse thing that is going to happen is you waste an hour of your time and a little gas...

Around here, 5.3L are dirt cheap from yards. Like you said, no accesories, but for $249 with 88k miles, you cant go wrong. The 6.0L go for more money though :(

Those prices are pretty high imo.

My 6.0 had 48k on it complete with everything(no trans) for $1500.

I would get EVERYTHING you can from the place. Make sure you get the harness, ECM, all sensors, etc. This swap can nickle and dime you to death.

Yeah, I thought they were high too.

Ended up buying an 08 LY6 6.0 w/4L80E trans and converter, 39k miles, ecm, harness, coil packs, intake and all accessories, gas pedal shipped to my house for $3100.

Not sure if it is the best deal out there, but figured having the trans with it will be a big plus for gas milage over my current T-400. Should have it next week.

Thanks.

Does anyone know what size bolts are used in the front and rear of the heads in order to lift the motor? This will be coming on a pallet and would like to have a chain and bolts ready to at least get it into the garage.
