I'm planing on getting a Viper 5901 remote start car alarm installed. I want to know will this work on my 1982 Bu. The place that im getting the work done at is going to install a solenoid to prim the carburetor so that it will crank. Im also going to upgrade my headlights to HID's (thats the cool blue lights seen on cars) since my head lights are very dim itll convert the lights to bulbs like in 04 model cars instead of the regular square leans. Have anyone used or have any knowledge about these items and are they a waste of money. Will these work

When buying HID's don't cheap out. There are loads of sellers on eBay that sell Chinese crap, and there are a few guys out there selling decent kits. Do the research, look at reviews/feedback, etc...

As for the alarm, with a primer solenoid/solenoid for the choke, it should work.....

If it will fire on one pump and you would trust it to work on that single pump, then sure, why not. Personally I probably wouldn't do it on my own because in my experience when an engine doesn't fire when using remote start it cranks a lot longer than I'm comfortable with. I also agree with getting quality HIDs (expect to spend a few hundred at least here), otherwise the lights won't be focused where they're supposed to be.

Any of the DEI stuff is decent, but if it's installed like just about every other alarm it won't be much use, if you cut the power wire and have no backup then it's basically useless. If it's hidden well, or somewhere inaccessible then it will be more effective. Most places just mount it up under the column because that's the easiest thing to do. Mine is hidden, and I also wired an auxiliary alarm siren inside the cabin that will go off if you turn on the ignition while the alarm is armed.

You don't need HID to have excellent lighting. A pair of OEM style sealed beam silverstars with $15 of relays and wiring will put a ridiculous amount of light on the road and make you wonder why the OEMs ever went away from sealed beams. Half the gain you'll be getting off the HID is they'll be re-routing power thru relays so that it's not running thru your old, corroded headlight switch.

Carburetors and remote start are not worth it IMO. Even if the car starts, in cold weather you usually have to rev the car gently to clear it out from the initial start. Lots of risk of the remote starter causing the car to start just enough to flood itself, now you're faced with a partially flooded engine in weather where it's going to crank slowly. Not good.

Lots of people use hidden kill switches, and there's several types of steering column and brake locks available if you look around. The steering wheel club is defeated quite easily and not much of a deterrent anymore.

It's not very easy to use a remote start on a carbed car. You need to actually move the throttle linkage far enough enough to drop the choke shut & set the high idle cam. It'a not impossible, just not easy... I'm not a fan of HID conversions, mostly because if you don't spend rediculous money, you have to give up your high beams & the beam pattern sucks unless you get $$$ projector beams.
