i am putting a 12bolt posi rear out of a caprice(year?) in my 80' malibu. from what i read i need 5.5 in. b/s on the rims. i hope this is all correct? [-o< my question is, will a 27in. tall, 10in. wide tire fit this combo without a frame notch on an 8in. rim?? i'm in the process of rolling the fender lips now. will this be good enough??

absolutely. toms78bu has that exact setup & it fits fine. he actually has 4.5" bs rims, but they stick out just a little too far for him, so he's switching to 5.5" bs, if he doesn't wind up notching the frame & stuffing 10s in there. ;)

i actually have a chevelle 12 bolt in my car, not sure the year. the tires don't stick out, but i don't think i can lower the rear either. as mega said, i have 4.5 bs wheels. i think 5 inch b.s. would be perfect, don't know if 5.5 would clear the frame. there is a member here with a 90's caprice 8.5 rear in his grand prix and i think he runs 5.5 bs. i hope to minitub mine and run a 10 inch wheel with a 5.5 b.s. and a 325 50 drag radial. this is what they run in orsca ez street now and i think they look really good, but that is off subject, sorry. just remember that every car is different, and it is always best to measure first before dropping cash on wheels that won't fit.

will the rearend fit? If your talking about a impala 12 bolt all the brackets are on the tubes and none on the center housing.

i think it's out of a caprice? the guy at the shop said he thinks it's out of a caprice but he couldn't remember. it's not giong o be a real big problem for me, because he said they would install it too. all i have to buy is the adjustable uppers, which is what i've already done. the rear has 3.73's in it and the total package with install was only $400.00. i don't think that's such a bad deal,do you?

ok. i measured the rearend and the housing measures 55.75. so should i go with 5 or 5.5bs on the rims? like i said the fender lips have been removed.
