I know & seen this question before....but I still have some questions about my wiring harness. What I have is a 1986 Buick Regal that was a 307 V8 car....all the colors in the picture where not represented on my diagram(which are in the book in the picture)....so lets play name game to the wires in the photo also can you tell me the wire gauge so I can match them up with wire from electricians shop at work......the fusable links are obvious for me to figure but the other colors I questions about like the green and the green/white wires........

.....where do I need to run these alternator wires too?

I'm not quite sure what the black wire is for on the alternator, what is its original application?

Far as the wires, basically all the smaller gauge ones are likely 16-18 gauge, and the larger ones are 10 gauge (coil wire may be 12 gauge but I'm not sure). The tan wire is likely oil pressure switch/sending unit, green would be temperature, brown for alternator. The light colored wire taped to the coil wire could be for the tach?

As far as wiring the alternator:

http://www.delcoremy.com/pdfs/service_manuals/legacy/1G-290.pdf

Scroll down to page 3, and it shows what you have to hook up.

pink = coil
yellow = tach
tan = oil pressure sending unit
green = water temp
brown = alternator
red = red off the alternator goes to the battery

Okay the 10 gauge red coming out the harness....what & where?
and the green/white wire?

The fusable links and purple(solenoid) go down to the starter along with positive from the battery....
Guys thanks this car should have been fired weeks ago......Im the ultimate procastinator......

The large red wire may have been the reference voltage to the old alternator. I am assuming that the large red wire coming out of the new alternator may go to the ref voltage pin on the new alternator. If so, you can wire these together.

I am going to guess that the green/white wire may have gone to the choke heater on the old carb. Not sure about that though.

Is there a pic-a-part junkyard nearby?

I think I saw some at Autozone, but I like the original wire better.
