My first thought is check the easy stuff like the resistor next to the blower. All speeds but high (full speed) are run through the A/C fuse, full speed is also, but it draws its power from a fusible link that runs down to the starter.

Indeed. I was actually just watching a video recently about synchros, etc., and always follow the mfr's suggestion, the synchro/cone composition dictates what oil you need, and if you use the wrong one you could have problems shifting, or worst case, wind up ruining the synchros.

No, I stuck some small diameter rubber tubing at the corners to keep the glass from moving, I'm not sure how I'd be able to fix it. I have a set of sport mirrors from my '81 I plan on using, or retrofitting a set of power mirrors from a later El Camino on.
