Personally I'm getting the more-left-oriented shifter handle. Right now I have a cheapy I cut off of an old Mr. Gasket shifter, and it's uuuuuuugly.

I have a set of chrome 17x9 (maybe 11?) wheels I was originally going to strip & paint... would still like to use them but now I have to ask myself how long I really think I'd be keeping those wheels. I suppose someday down the road I could put some c6 wheels on without having to worry about...

May want to check the distributor/cam gear. Some companies require specific distributor gears to not wear one of the two out. If your timing is changing and the chain is in good shape, one of the gears may be bad.

Any trans you would put behind a regular SBC will work, pretty sure you need a special flywheel/flexplate for either app. though.
