I got a 3200 converter for my 700r4. I just can not get the thing to seat properly. I can get 'two clicks' worth of seating, but it absolutely needs to go in another 1/4". I tried turning it, pushing it, smacking it with a mallet, but it just will not seat.

I measured the old converter vs the new one. There is a slight difference in the notch on the snout. The old converter is a bit wider at 0.42" vs the 0.382" of the new converter.

I just wonder if anyone had difficulty with a high stall converter and if trimming the notch on the snout 0.04" has been done before? I do not know how wide the tabs are in the trans and am not sure if it's the o-ring on the input shaft snout hanging me up, the notches being too small, or if there's something else...

My buddy had a problem similar to that but he found out that the spline counts were different.

Had that same experience after the last ATI freshening/stall change. Tried filing the burrs off the input shaft, but after 2 hours of careful effort, discovered that we needed a different input shaft. The aftermarket ones are not consistantly made to GM's specs. Trans builder indicated their were 65+ different shafts in TH350s over the years. ](*,)

If you're lucky, it may just be a burr on the input shaft spline....try the filing trick.

Will do. I HOPE it's something retarded like that since I can;t go changing an input shaft myself.
