I have heard that 1978 chevy malibu spindles are a one year only and that 1979-1983 are the same. Is this true? I need a driver side spindle for my 78' malibu and i am trying to save a little time and possible headache. Thanks, Matt.
I think he ment to say that yes, the 78 spindle is different than the 79-87 spindle. You can use the later spindles on a 78, BUT you need different bearings and rotors. You May even be able to reuse the rotor too, but would have to knock out the races and install the later size/style. I havent tried that though so I'm NOT sure.
Rotors are not interchangeable either. IIRC the later set up also sits the wheel out a bit farther also. I think 3/4" but it's been a long time since I did one. This used to be the first thing I would do to my cars cause it would make it handle a little better and the '78 rotors were already nonexistant. Of course that was 10-15 yrs ago.
