Here's a picture of the new transmission thermostat showing it is connected. Next is to connect the lines to the transmission.

I need to get 2 pipe thread fittings to replace the tubing thread fittings. Probably Monday or Tuesday before I can get them.

I got it put together today. I plan to share pictures with you so you can see what I did. I hope to start it up tomorrow to check for leaks and check the fluid levels. I also want to see what the engine temperature gets to at idle. With a little luck I might even get it on the road and check it out.

I hope it will make it a little cooler. The engine isn't overheating, just to see if it'll lower the temperature a bit. The radiator is an aluminum 2 core radiator.

Here's a picture of the stainless bolt that I have put in both cooler fittings in the radiator.

I have put those in to keep dirt from getting in the transmission cooler part of the radiator.
Here's a picture showing my connections for the new rubber lines to the transmission.

I got the 78 Elk started again. I checked for leaks and didn't see any. I hope I get time to get it on the road again tomorrow.

While the Elk was running,I checked the transmission fluid level, it appeared to be a quart low, so I added 1. I then checked it while it was running, it appears to be overfull. I then pulled the hose off the back side of the thermostat, where the fluid is returning to the transmission. When I pulled it apart fluid came out. So apparently the cooler has fluid in it. So I'll have to get a pump and remove some of the transmission fluid.

are you running a temp gauge on the trans at all?i only ask to see if there was a noticeable difference to warrant something like this.seems like a lot of work just to hold off on keeping something like trans fluid cool.it's a diffrent principal than the t-stat in the engine's cooling system.
