I would find a similar Monte or likewise car with a ccc and distributor. That would at least be a starting point, I'm not sure of the best places to look for info on those types of parts. If I were sticking with a carbed 4.3 I would stick with a 2bbl. intake (performance if you can find one), and pre-computer distributor. Any type of computer controls I would go with would be aftermarket, or later years. Are you sure the engine is carbed, or is it TBI (fuel injected)? The throttle body looks much like a carb.

Since I was lookin' for pics I pulled up a few intakes:

S-10 4.3'S NEVER CAME CARB'D Only TBI or CPI. Full size truck 4.3's were all 4bbl 85-86 and TBI 87-95. G-body 4.3's (85-87) were Also TBI. There was never a 2bbl carb'd 4.3. Only 2-injector TBI systems.

You will need to get an aftermarket 4.3 distributor with vacuum advance (dont use a 3.3(200), or 3.8(229) V6 unit, as they are semi even fire, the 4.3 is True even fire and has a specific distributor) Never has the factory made a non computor controlled 4.3 distributor, unless you consider GMPP parts. They offer one and it is big bux! Go on ebay, you will find many aftermarket ones for $109.00 complete.

Use a 85-86 Full size truck 4bbl manifold or get yourself a edelbrock 4bbl manifold. Use a 390 CFM carb. Dont mess with 2bbl carbs or adapters.

You should be in business.

Thinks to remember:
4.3's use a reverse spinning water pump as they came with serpentine belt systems. If you retain your 229's accy drives, you need to run a 229 water pump on the 4.3.

DONT use the 229 distributor. It is not the same firing order as 4.3.

Pm me if you need more info, Im a self proclaimed 4.3 V6 expert! LOL!!

The 4.3 is an even fire engine. The 229 (and 200) is a semi-odd fire engine. No compatability at all.

Oh, sorry... I skimmed over the old posts and didn't see 80ECLT just said the same thing!

Look up a distributer for a 1985 Chevrolet Pickup, C10, 4.3 liter, with a carburator.
CARDONE part number 301685. This is the big cap, vacuum advance, non computer distributer.
Same distributer I used when I put a 4.3 liter in an S-10 with a small Holley 4 Barrel.

Doesnt the 85 have Electronic Spark Contorl? My 86 did... If not, than you have a good cheap option!

The distributor I got is just like the HEI most of us run on our SBCs / BBCs except it is for a 6 cylinder. I did some serious hunting to find this little jewel.

That's GM divisional politics for you... the trucks did not have to meet the same emissions/economy standards as the cars, so they got the leftover carburators. I remember having an '89 Silverado 350 w/ an E-Qjet.

That's also why you still see 12 mpg Suburbans. If they had to meet CAFE requirements, they would be out of production before you could blink.
