OK, Simple question, I have an 87 Elke tha tI am trying to figure out if it is a 700 or a 200. I have been told it could be either. How can I tell the difference? I dont like messing with trannys anyway, so is there an easy way to tell the dif?

there is a tech page somewhere with the different shapes to the transmission pans, that will tell you what it is

You can also count the pan bolts.

16 pan bolts for a 700R4 (square pan ) and a 4L60. 200R4 has 17 pan bolts and is more oval than square.

New question. The trans is a 200r4, and since the motor sway it is not shifting into 2nd like it should. Does the downshift cable affect this on the 200? It will not hook up to the new carb I am running. I was told that the trans may shift off of throttle pressure that is measured by the downshift cable.

Yes, it's called a TV cable. It must be connected in order for the trans to work properly.

Great, somethign else to worry about. Next quesstion. Is there much difference in the lenght of the t 350 amd the 200? Are the Yolks and crossmember the same? I am assuming not, but it was worth a shot. I would really rather run the t 350 so when we decide to go a little more HP, then the trans will be more apt to handle it.

90% sure the driveshaft is the same ( it was the same from my 350C to the 200R4 ). The crossmember is different though but pretty easy to come accross as most of the cars from 85 and up had the 4speed trans and anything older ( G-body ) would have the crossmember you would be looking for.
