Hello,i might go to look at and purchase a 79 factory 4 spd malibu,,,is that trans a saginaw or super t-10 ???? Thanks in advance John.

All factory manual trans Malibus are Saginaws. 3 and 4 speed. Same for Monte's. Cutty's with the teeny 260 V8 could get a 5 speed. It was even weaker than a Saginaw. They were also all A bodies. None were ever available in a G body.

The 5 speed was a T50 and only came behind the 260 V8 in the Cutlass. The T50 was also used in Monzas and Cosworth Vegas, but with a different gear set.
I only have Chevrolet parts books, no Olds books, so I can't verify. I would think the 260 diesels had way too much torque for a T50, so I would be surprised if it had been an option.
I know there was a 5 speed manual transmission used with the diesel. I've driven them. It may not have been a T50...

I didn't believe it, but it is true. 
The 260 diesel was only available in 1979. It could be coupled in an Oldsmobile A body with an Isuzu 5 speed (M75) or a TH200 automatic (M29).
