I've been having problems with the rear differential cover leaking oil. I've tried different gaskets and glue and nothing works. So I had a coupon from National Parts Depot, so I bought a new steel differential cover that needs to be painted. What is the best paint to use?

I like Rustoleum brush on paint for that kind of stuff, that's what I painted my rear axle with.

wow, looks good.you can use any paint you want.just make sure JD black(or whatever paint you decide to to use) doesn't require any adtional primers.i know some paints like they're direct to metal.meaning they don't require any primer before hand.it's good to go straight from the can.

I'm thinking of doing something different than I said earlier. I have some Rust-oleum gray primer and some Eastwood's Under hood black. That would give it a primer to fight the rust and a black that fights rust also.
