Is there a way to push the clip on the speedometer so the cable can be removed, without taking the dash apart?

I took the speedometer out and cable is disconnected. I'll have to see what's holding the core from coming out. I probably need to pull it out from down by the transmission.

With the headlamp switch removed, you can slip your hand behind the speedometer to release the clip on the cable and pull the cable away from the speedometer (I don't have large hands).

The inside cable only comes out from the top.

I took the speedometer out of the cluster and got the cable disconnected. Should the new cable be installed with the sheath in the car or out?

I would say to install it as a unit...sheath and inner cable. I think that's easier than trying to thread the inner core into the sheath while still in the car. That's my opinion.
