We built a 7.5 for my brother's Malibu, its a 13-1 comp, six inch rod 350, with -10 heads, 350TH with a race/good stall(not a boss hog street converter). 4.10's in a 7.5, Moser 28 spline axles (same as those in the GN/8.5) and a used posi unit out of a '93 up F body. It made 252 passes into the low 11's, maybe one 10.90 pass with pepper spray (thats when the track said: No more until it has a roll cage!) Its got 28 x 10.50 slicks and he does hard core burnouts. Yes, it did break, but, thats how long it took abuse.
You do not have to remove the rear-end to add the c-clip elimiators, they are just a press on bearing that bolts to the end of the housing to secure the axle in the event of an axle failure. Its a saftey deal, no matter who makes the axle. The weak part of the 7.5 is the spiders and the ends of the axle where they tapered down. Its not a ring or pinion failure.
The '98-02 LS powered F-body cars have an even stronger carrier, with four pinions for the posi/spiders. The carriers bolt together, no big window that you slide the clutch stacks through.
What transmission are you going to add the brake to? Or, don't go with a brake unless you have a 400TH or lots of money, building a TH350 to take that abuse is expensive, not just the hardened sprag race (they give up after about two good, slick launches) like a stronger direct drum, heavy input shaft.
