well just purchased a 80 malibu , well today it was almost a hurricane(extremely hard rain) and when it stopped i went outside to clean the interior and to my surprise i had a gallon of water sitting under passenger side rug.(directly under glove box) lifted carpet nice puddle.......however no rust yet solid floors and want to keep it that way.....something tells me large amounts of water =rust.

my question anyone experience this issue?

i noticed prior owner did some iffy repair to stop it....and well from the first story u can see didnt stop much, heres some pics of what he did.

well guys decided to start investigating after talking two two buddies they told me it would be worlds easier to remove inner fender and start from there so i did that(piece of cake) looked at the drain........

and after a clean.

since iam this far figure might as well re-seal the box....however i have no clue what to do next.

can the box be removed as one piece then re-sealed?....or do i remove blower, heater, condenser then box?

any help will greatly be appreciated.

thanks.

I wish I saw this post sooner so I could have saved you some time. I'd say 90% of what people used to bring to me as what they tought was a bad heater box seal was just a plugged drain...

Also pay attention to the vacuum lines/wiring running through the firewall. It's kinda doubtful anything will get in through there though.

At the same time it's possible your windshield may be leaking. Mine drips directly over the passenger floorboard in a heavy rain. I pulled my heater box out this time around & scraped all the sealant off the firewall. No leaks there for sure, but the windshield still leaks :?
