There is such a thing as a 10.5" flywheel for a 454. I have one. Got it from GM directly. Nodular iron and externally balanced. Just a responce from a earlier comment in this thread. I dont recall the part number.

Weld & drill is a great solution for a stock type ride.

If it's a performance car seriously consider the lakewood 15015 with a normal fork. No more concerns about clutch size and no more hard to find parts. And you'll still have ten toes if it suffers a violent clutch explosion. Not to mention the blocksaver plate and it's benefit. Good luck

I got the first one back from they gut that does all my aluminum welding. $75 to weld up the old hole, weld in a boss, counter bore and tap the new hole and surface the transmission face of the bell housing. I had to buy a special tap 13/16 - 14. I'll snap some pics and post them.

As for the stick shift, 10.5" flywheel, I have never seen one. I have a new GM performance part catalog, and the only 454 and 400 SBC flywheels listed are of the 11-12" variety. I'll double check that number, see I can score one of those flywheels.

My welder guy does machine work too, mostly repair on aluminum block and heads. He told me he could do a little better on the price if he can do several at once, to save from setting up his mill each time.

Some pics of the bell housings I had altered:

Too make this all work, I opened up the hole for the fork down-ward to the rib.
I had to end up using the 12" bell housing to clear the clutch/flywheel appilcation on my 454. Mine is working fine with a normal clutch fork from a local parts store.

To make the 12"/truck bell housing work, the hole for the pivot ball was welded up, a boss was welded inside the bell housing. Upon setting up for the new lower G-body specific hole, it was going to be close to breaking through on the larger front bearing retainer hole the transmission sits in, so, I turned the outside of the pivot ball down on the lathe about .040. I purchased the special thread tap for the pivot ball. The guy I use welds them up, repairs any stripped holes(with heli-coils), decks the transmisison surface, and drills, counter bores, and taps the hole in the right spot for $75. He'll cut a break if he can do several at a time, then he doesn't have to re-set-up the mill.

I will take a pic of the opened up hole. It is probably too large, but, not that it is all in place, I'll make a template so its a smaller hole, with a tighter fit.

I also found a guy on ebay that sell a front bearing retainer that fits Muncie & Saginaw that fits the truck bell housing for like $48.

I had two 10.5 inch bell housings altered when I had the two in the pics done. If anyone wants one. Let me know.

Well, here is the deal, my cars will have the option of being stick shift. I had the bell housings welded up, one is in place. If anyone else wants one, I'll sell/exchange one. I was looking at the scattershield, but, it was well, more expensive than a normal chevy one, I already have a few of those. Plus, the rat motors these are behind are 6500 RPM max, with street tires. I move up to slicks, 'll add a scattershield.

I just figured if I was looking for stuff to make one a stick, surely someone else will be.

Keep me in the loop on how it all works out.

Converted a 81 El Camino to manual trans.Used an early 80's Camaro #627 bellhousing with a generic Chevy truck throwout fork. Clutch linkage lines up properly in a straight line, clutch action is very smooth
