Just sort a reminder to pay attention to details prior to first start up.

When I done a first start-up of my sbc, I think there were air pockets in the heads because I neglected to have the radiator cap off and the front of the car jacked up. The mtr heated up a lot, almost as soon as it was fired. Although it was shut down after a few minutes, figured out and corrected the problem, there is now a coolant leak on the right bank.

Used Victor-Reinz .026 gaskets, and although their not really expensive gaskets, my engine builder friend said that he as a customer using them in two of his circle track race motors running more compression and never having a problem.

The coolant was dripping on the starter and shorted it out. Used that Bar's stop leak powder and it stopped the leak. If it was my own driver, would let it go, but it's my daughter's ride, '87 Monte SS, so it's coming apart.
