I need some expertise opinion.

I have a 400 sbc oem block that is 4-bolt main. I purchased a used top end kit that consists of Dart Pro 1 215cc heads 64 cc chamber, and comp cams solid roller 12-906-9. This cam is a little larger than I had planned for and I am re-thinking my shortblock. First off, this is not a street car 90% track 10% street. The car is a 1978 malibu, 4:56 gears, undecided on manual trans or high stall auto.

Ok now the question. My original plans were for a healthy solid cam with a scat 9000 series 406 kit and 10.5:1 hyperuetectic pistons. My rpm about 6200.

Now I am thinking about an all forged 6" rod 377 setup with mainstuds. My intention is to decrease the side loading stress and rotating mass to allow the engine to rev a little easier and to get into more of the usable cam range. I will not be exceeding 7,000 rpm

I am on a moderate budget with the build and need some professional opinions on my thinking.

Thanks.
