i bought my 81 bu from a good buddy of mine he built this car with his son for his son to drive for his first car. His son went bake to live with his mom and my friend just didnt want to see this car nemore said it reminded him of his boy. Ne ways brand new motor trans and rearend. but he put 4.56 gears and lo pro tires on the rear with i think 8.5 or 9 inch wheels. i was wanting to know wut is the tallest and widest tire i can fit in the fenderwells to try to get some gear back without bogging the motor down. it has a th350 turbo and a very decent solid lift flat tappet cam 291 heads. just wondering because i dont have the money to minitub it right now. he said around 45mph is cruizing speed for the car and i would like to get that up to around 55 to 60 . thanx
Alot of malibu owners run 275/60/15 on the back they are 28 inch tall. I have them on my elcamino with 15X8 rims with 3.75 back spacing with no frame rubbing and the body wont go down on the tire and the fender lip is not close but i would check that on your ride.With that much gear you are going to need a tall tire to be streetable over 45mph.
