Holley or Carter/Edelbrock?

I'm just curious. My dad grew up on Holleys (built/tuned a few way back when), so that's his stance. The Edelbrock (1405) I have has worked well for me both on the 305 and 350 it's been on, no driveability/idle issues, etc., and it's gotten halfway decent mileage. If it's any help, it's a street motor that sees basically no strip time. I don't really have a lot of tuning/troubleshooting experience yet, so I'm kind of middle of the road so far.

if your not familiar with holleys blocks then dont get a holley. i drill and tap my blocks to make them tunable and know what each circuit does and how changes will affect it. a holley is the most tunable carb made in the right hands. in the wrong hands its a nightmare. for bolt on and go its the carter/edelbrock

I know I am prolly giving up some power with my edelbrock, but i'm not that great with carbs. I rarely have to mess with mine so, I voted edelbrock.

Hey Doober, Use what works for you. I like the Q-jets, The small primaries offer great gas milage and the large secondaries have the buwao factor :mrgreen: .

If I had to go with an EGR setup on the 'Bu out here (only Vortec intake I know of is a GM one that has a spreadbore flange) I'd probably go with an aftermarket Q-Jet.

I've always had good luck with Holleys,economy and performance both
but it's hard to have decent fuel milage when you've got your foot in it all the time!

theres a common misconception that a holley is a pig on the street . with a few simple changes a holley can be made to have whatever afr you want at whatever rpm range you want much easier than any other carbuerator. off the shelf holleys or any other carb for that matter have to be made to fit a wide variety of applications so they always lack is some area. they are by far the most superior carbuerator ever designed.

I agree. The problem with holley carbs and carbs for the street is people who run to big of a carb for there application.

X2! Our GT1 camaro got an average of 6 MPG in race conditions. Eric's AMX got right around 20 MPG highway with 420+ HP, a T-10 & a 4.10 rear
