Street/strip.....Holley
Garage queen/grocery getter....Edelbrock

Only reasons I am running Edelbrock on the 80 is it only cost $30.oo (new) from friend and it sits ALOT now, so I don't have much to worry about as far as gaskets leaking and diaphragm(s) going bad over winter. Now I can let it set for a couple of months if needed and still go out and fire it up and drive until I'm tired with NO issues, and it performs consistently.

That's one of the things I seem to remember they claimed, the internals aren't as complicated (i.e. why the Holley is more tunable). Same here, I put the carb on & the car sat for up to a year between starts (with the 305). If I'm driving it regularly, I can go out and - as long as it's warm enough - flick the key (like you would with any EFI car today) and it fires right up, I don't even need to touch the gas pedal. If it's cold though I have to play with the throttle 'til it gets warm, mainly because I took the choke plate off (manual choke & I never hooked up a cable to it). It's run extremely well for a $25 carburetor! :D

Ive used both for many miles and strip runs. For what your are planning use an Edelbrock.

Q-jet for me, unless 795 CFM isn't big enough. There is a world or tuneability in those carbs to a certain power level, if you know what you are doing. The holley/holley style is needed when you are making some real power, but I would never again have a holley a daily driver.
