Ok here it is, I'm thinking of doing a Ls1 swap into my malibu. My current set up is 350/th350 with an 8.5. I want to leave the motor FI to keep cost down and my mpg up. My questions are: Will my headers work, could i use my transmission, will my crossmember work, will i need a new drive shaft, what motor mounts will i need, will the oil pan work, what fuel pump and regulator would i need, would tuning be required if took all the accesories off the motor but the water pump and alternator, and how much do you think it would cost i found a LS1 and automatic transmission for 1500 and hour and half away from me.

Thank in advance for any help i know very little about these swaps.

No your headers will not work, yes you can use your transmission along with TCI converter pt#241005 or gm pt#12563532, your crossmember needs to be modified, driveshaft will remain the same only if you use the above mentioned TCI pt#, get Moroso solid mounts and Street&Performance adapter plates and a modified F-body oil pan also from Street&Performance. Summit inline fuel pump pt# sum-g3138, fuel pressure regulator pt#aei13301(Aeromotive), and yes, the stock computer needs to be reprogrammed to delete all unnecessary sensors. Cost wise is anywhere from $1000.00>. Have fun, and post pics!

Thanks for the info if I end up doing the swap I will definately post pics. Still debating on what to do, either take my malibu from a strip to a strip/street car or buy a street car and keep my bu as it is or sell the bu and and get a 98-02 f body dont realy know what to do yet. This will be my first daily driver and i dont want to give up racing so I'll have to get something reliable and good on gas. A ls1 in my bu would actualy be faster than the motor that is in it (actualy car with a Ls1 would be faster...lol ) and it would be good on gas but my dad isn't for it becuase we will have a max of $3,000 to work with if we're lucky. Sorry to ramble lol

3000 is a tight budget to work with.. if your looking to go with a LSx motor i would look for a complete 5.3 pull out with pcm wiring transmission and all.. you could find one under $1000 if you look hard enough and wait for a good deal.. i paid 1400 for my 6.0/4l80e with pcm and wiring.. if you really wanted to it could be bored out to a 5.7 down the road.. eitherway you will need a differnt oil pan or a modified fbody.. wait4me performance over on ls1tech has reasonable prices to mod the harness and tune the pcm.. then you have to figure all of the nickel and dime stuff that will come up while your working on it..

A little tip if you want to keep the acceleration and get better mileage, use a stock 200R4 crossmember/trans/driveshaft (may not matter since you have an 8.5) with the FE100 (I don't see why this wouldn't work) from G-Force (http://www.crossmembers.com):
FE-100%20FRAME%20EXTENSION.JPG

This will let you run the crossmember without modification should you choose to keep the trans in the 'stock' location (it's what I'd do anyway). X2 on the rest :)

Thanks for the help guys, but it probably looks like we may be going with a older 383 for the bu becuase my dad isn't to crazy about the EFI and the carb swap is too expensive. Don't know what I'll get as a daily driver yet, but who knows we change our minds as quick as the weather.
