The cost of whatever means you use to turn off/on the lockup. And either fabricate or buy a crossmember.

Some people use a toggle switch and wires to turn the lockup on/off manually, but there is a kit by B&M that does it automatically and is adjustable (which is what I have).

Not much, really. Same driveshaft.

You will need a frame extention for the crossmember. Where is the 200R4 coming from.

from the Monte SS ( once you are sure it's a 200r4 ) grab the
- TV cable
- the bracket off the back of the carb the TV cable and throttle clips into
- crossmember
- plug in the side of the trans ( lockup wiring )
- shifter bracket and linkage off the side of the trans as it's a little diff than the 3 speed

cost me $30.00 for the carb bracket, $50.00 for the crossmember, and a couple hours of time to do the 200r4 swap. Grab a new trans mount at the same time

Not trying to naysay the 200's but I would save the time and money and find an 88 or later 700R4... They are much stronger and a more adequate solution for your 383...

thanks for the list axisg very helpful ,,, TNTS i have thought of the 700r4 seeing i dont know much about trannies i was told by a friend who does ,,,the gearing isnt the best set up i did see an article with a breakdown showing reasons that the 700r4 is strong ,,,,, there are other guys who are running the 200r4 behind bbc and havent had any issues then i have another buddy who hammers on his 200r4 so i figure it can handle the task ....guess i need more reasearch and education http://www.webrodder.com/article.php?AID=426&SID=6

That link you posted pretty much sums it up... The 200's can be built to handle the abuse but generally you will spend close to double what you will for a 700 of comparable strength... The 700's have a wider spread between gears but with the bottom end your 383 makes you should have enough grunt to pull through the gear changes.

http://www.oldengine.org/unfaq/leadfoot/trans.htm
1 2 3 4 R
200r4 2.74 1.57 1.00 0.67 2.07
700r4 3.06 1.62 1.00 0.70 2.29

Horsepower requirements for some transmissions

* TH350 -- 35hp
* 700r4 -- 70hp (this number seems astronomically high to me... might be true??)
* 727 -- 40hp
* 904 -- 35hp
* E4OD -- 65hp
