There probably isn't enough fluid in the box for it to function properly, so that "catch" you feel is probably when the box binds for a second because it is trying to transfer fluid around.

How can I get more in it? When I remove a line fluid comes out, so I put some in the opposite line and sealed it. Any more options?

i had the same set up as you (looped lines on a p/s box). i came across a deal on a manual steering box from an s10 and put it in the car. only regret i had was not doing it sooner cause it was so simple.

A looped P/S box is half-a$$ed. It's not the same as a manual box. If you can find a manual box I would change it. They're only $50-$75 for a good used S-10 box.

The fluid in a power steering unit assits the recirculating ball setup that actually turns the steering gear. When the fluid isn't being pumped under pressure things get tight & "notchy".

Sorry, I should have rephrased my wording. I didn't mean to say you were half-a$$ed, just the procedure of looping the lines. It is a common practice to do it that way, but it isn't correct. You're going to have guys tell you, "I did it and had no problems." It still isn't right. The manual box swap is cheap and very easy to do, takes about an hour at the most. Tommy explained it pretty well in his post. The power box is designed to work with fluid pressure, when you loop the lines it will still steer but not properly. Good luck. P.S. I have a perfect, slightly used idler arm, where are you located? You can have it if you want to pay the shipping. Lee
