Hey guys. I'm ordering rod and main bearings for a little 350 runner I"m putting together. I was curious on something. The crank has not been turned so my bearing choices are standard or .001 oversized. Can you use one standard and one .001 bearing half? Theoretically this would decrease the clearance by 0.0005 (5 ten thousandths). I've always wondered this. I figure if my clearances fall on the loose side when I check them I can tighten them up some without going all the way to the other side of the range.

Thanks Barry, thats what I was hoping. Now which side should get the oversized bearing shell?? Block/rod or cap.

I have not measured the crank yet and I don't have bearings to really compare the measurements to. I have micrometers and dial bore gauges that I'm gonna use, along with comparing it all to good ol plastigauge.

i like to put the thicker in the upper half of the rod. the best way to measure is to measure crank with mic record readings. then install std bearings in housing torque and measure with dial bore gauge. the difference is obv. your clearance. if it needs to be adjusted this is when you would install one or both and re measure.

Thanks man, thats the plan. I figure the bearings are cheap enough so I'll order 8 standard and 8 .001 oversized, along with standard and oversized mains.
