Minimum space

What would be the minimum space you would go from rear tire to frame?

Unless you have the rearend to where it doesn't move side to side just a bit on corners, around 3/4" to 1" to be safe.
I've seen about 1/2" on a friends 80 Malibu and he rubbed occasionally....all stock rearend/suspension.

I cannot get a finger between the tire and frame on my MCSS with stock wheels, stock suspension, and 235/60/15 tires. I experience no rub. I suggest about 1/2 inch is sufficient.
