Need help identifying rear-end

Bought a Malibu and this rear was under it. It's a 12 bolt and it looks like it was cut to fit the car. It also has c-clip eliminators. Can anyone tell me if this is an A-Body rear-end? And, where can I find the year on it or more info? I want to buy all new brake hardware for it. Including new drums and wheel cylinders.

I noticed the upper control arms on the Malibu had been modified to fit. Does someone make an upper control arm replacement for the A-Body 12 bolt to G-Body swap? Since the car is going to be street driven a lot, I would like something with poly bushings for a better ride. Oh yeah, the rear end is going under our 1983 Malibu 5-Door project. cool.gif

Great find there!!!!

Iceman makes 12 bolt swap arms. If you look at the sponsor links at the top of the forum his link is on the right in the middle.

There should be some numbers stamped in the top of the axle tube on the passenger side.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I happen to own a 1967 El Camino with a 12-bolt. I will take the rear wheels off to see if everything is the same.

Bowtie, what did you do for upper control arms? I went to the Iceman site and all they have is adjustable arms and stuff with spherical bearings. The wagon is going to be street driven quite a bit. So cruising comfort is going to be very important.

Hey toecutter
I bought my control arms off ebay from this guy. the auction i got was for boxed lowers and these uppers. the quality looks real good and i set the pinion angle took it out for a spin, jumped on it and it hooked straight.
If ya need anything else dont hesitate to ask

the lower control arm brackets have been switched to the g-body ones.

The Malibu was running low 10's with this setup. I think I am going to just swap out the control arms from the Malibu over to the Wagon. And vice-versa. Shouldn't have any problems. If anything, I might just upgrade the lowers. Thanks for all the info guy's. dancin_banana.gif

what was done to the upper arms to get them to fit? If you look in the general section under my post of some progress there is a good pic of the iceman uppers installed. I have seen people shorten the stock ones and force them in but there is no way those don't bind like crazy. If anything I would box the stock lowers and get the swap uppers.
