Re: NEW Project 1978 Malibu LQ9/4L65 Swap Updated 4-14-2011

Monday Night progress. Motor is in car, headers are all bolted up, converter bolts, and alternator and power steering secure.
Tuesday night should get the radiator in car, pushrods in, intake bolted down, fuel rail and return pumbed, and starter bolted up. Then just some connector, oil, plugs, and gas for Weds. and its should be running.

Here are some Pictures

I like the band clamps on the exhaust... makes for quick disconnecting of pipes....

Very nice build man, I've been following it over on tech ever since you started it. Your build is what has inspired me to go LSX in the first place, I've got an LSX Iroc and now I can't wait to get started on my malibu! hopefully it'll be soon! \:D/

Thanks, its been alot. I hate working on dirty old cars, so its always has to be gone through to make it like new.

I really should of just built a motor in the beginning but this is really an economy build. Hoping to sell the car but if that doesn't happen then we will continue working on it.

Well we went to the dyno yesterday but unfortunately no loc-tite on the converter bolts and they came loose. So we fixed that issue and slight valve cover gasket leak and then today back to the dyno.

Results are in 409 RWHP @ 6100 RPM and 370 RWTQ this is 20 more horsepower then we had in 2009 with the XR273 cam from Comp.

Next Step is to stop by the track and see what it does.

Here the graph from the dyno pull.

@ lines --- upper lines are current set-up and lower lines are the 2009 set-up in the car.
