So today I figured I would start to put my new rotors and pads on to get me one step closer to hitting the road again. Now here the problem, I repacked the inside bearing and greased up the rotor put on the rear seal on, repacked the outside bearing and put everything back on like washer then bolt, now I can tighten bolt down and there is still a lot of play in the rotor, and by a lot a mean its moving in and out about an inch and the bolt holding everything on is on way to far, because if I was to put a cotter pin in it would miss the bolt completely. I figured some play was ok but this is insane I had all the parts together so I'm sure I'm not missing any thing and I still got my old rotors and everything match's up so I'm lost on what to do. Is there an after market spacers for new rotors?

Did you install the races that the bearings ride on? ....................J/K ;)

Do you still have the old bearings to compare with the new ones to see if there are any differences?
Are you positive the parts store got you the correct bearings?

You may have to rip the new inner seal out to remove the bearing to make sure it fits the spindle correctly. With the races installed correctly the bearings can only go on so far and not be wrong, there are no adjustments. shrug.gif

You didn't by chance get 78 rotors did you? They have a smaller outer bearing thatn 79 and later.

Yes, they do....it's best to renew the race's also when renewing the bearings. That is one item that can make or break a new bearing if it's worn out or out of shape (bad wear pattern).

Take all of your old parts with you to see that you have purchased the correct replacement parts too!! Z-man may be onto something if the parts guy gets what the COMPUTER shows him what you need.

IIRC also the races come in the same box wrapped up with the bearing.... :-k

I did the bad thing and didn't order new bearing, but I'm an old f-body guy so I didn't know the hub and rotor where 1 part.

I wish ALL vehicles were 2 piece hub/rotor so it would be alot easier to turn the rotors for brake jobs without having to open up the bearings to grit and such.

It seems like the races are installed on the new rotors, I can get pics need to buy some batteries for my camera. I got one of the old ones out easy so I hope maybe the new bearing will have different races. I could also go back to my old rotors but they are wrapped and garbage in my books.
