One more time on backspace

I found a set of weld prostars 15X8 I didnt get them because when I checked backspace they were 3.5 inches and I thought I read it needs to be 4.5. Now searching the wheel threads tonight I just get confused. Would these have worked or would they rub on the outside of wheel well? The 3.5 would also position the rim away from the frame more than a 4.5 wouldnt it.

Thanks Larry

4 1/2 would move it closer to the frame by 1" The less Back spacing the more it moves away from the frame
*but* the wider the rim and less BS the more it will move it toward the quarter panel/wheel lip.

i am 80% sure that the factory B/S is 3.5" but of course they were 14 x 7 or x 6 etc i have 15 x 8 4.50 B/S on my car with a 275/60/15 on the rear with a 1/4" spacer keep in mind it might be a good idea to get longer studs if needed cant comment of the front i plan on running 15 x 7 4" B/S its only .5" more than stock i have a factory set of ralleys i could measure the B/S for exact number if you want http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D521%2D5861PS&N=700+115&autoview=sku
