Original Gauges?

The original oil and temp gauges in my '79 Malibu, I was wondering if they were accurate enough or should I use others like AutoMeter?
Is it possible in any way to "make them more accurate"?

If you wonder about the accuracy, I would just check them against a standard. If they check out OK, then use them. If they are off, then buy some accurate ones. It is a combination of both guage and sender that you need to check.
