Just bought a car that has a GN posi rear and the cover is leaking so I figured while I'm changing the gasket of course to put new fluid but what kind ? This is new territory to me, is it normal gear fluid plus addittive?

Yes, that's it.

If you are running mostly dragstrip with only modest street drivng you can run without the additive. It is there to REDUCE the friction on the clutch plates and prevent it from making noises going around turns. I used to run my old 94 Formula without additive and it never caused a problem. But you could hear some slightl groaning noises from the posi driving around in the parking lot with the windows open.

They used to make that additive out of whale blubber, believe it or not. You can imagine how quickly the environmental types shut that situation down! I don't think the modern additives are as good as the old stuff, quite frankly. But I also don't think brake pads are as good as they used to be when they had asbestos in them!!
