I've never put a new cable core in a speedometer sheath before, what's the proper way to do that? Is it best to take the sheath out of the car or leave it in?

I'd also suggest putting some grease on the inner cable, whether new or used.

Thank you Jack. I have lubricated it. Is there any problems adding a square tip end to the cable going into the transmission?

I'm going to try putting more lubricant, inside the speedometer cable sheath, and see if that makes it work right.

I took the dash apart and pulled the speedometer. I then pulled the speedometer cable out and lubricated it again. I also noticed the clip that holds the speedometer cable to the speedometer was loose so I tightened it up. Tomorrow I'll finish putting the dash back together. Hope I can get a test drive in and see if the speedometer and cruise control work.

I finally got my test drive in today. The speedometer worked well. I just hope it's accurate. I didn't pass anyone and no one passed me at the given speed. The cruise control worked great.
