Ok,I got little else to do today so I pulled the rear cover.I wiped the oil off the gears and checked the backlash.it's .008,so it might be .001 more on really dry gears, that's reasonable. It's hard to see the wear pattern from the photo......it's postioned more towards the inside of the tooth and doesn't run off the tooth in any direction. That also seems good.I'm sure the pinion and carrier preload are ok as I took a lot of care setting it up as best I could being an amatuer at rear gears.
I suppose it's all ok and just button it up with new gear oil.
You can see the Posi, what kind is it besides adequate for the 240 HP 305 in the El Camino?
