I have a ? about ford 9inch.Ok here's the deal i installed a new set of gears in my rear three weeks ago because the other ones we're making noise. So i pulled it apart and not to my surprise they we're junk. So i called Moser and had a set of 4.11 sent out. The gears we're installed to spec's Normal break-in for about 50 miles. Took it out to a local car show tonight and got a little happy with it now i hear the same noise i heard before. What gives???? curse_sign.gif Oil level is to the freakin hole. A little help would be nice Thanks, Bud Oh by the way that's what i get for putting ford sh*t in my Malibu. ](*,)

more or less a growl and it happens when the drivetrain gets caught up to the car. if you know what i mean not pulling but not deceleration. If i romp on it it goes away. It could be a sh*t set of gears. SUCKS

Pinion depth and backlash correct ? also did you measure pinion preload? if all these were correct it would just about have to be a defective gear.

I would venture to say its in your pinion bearings... Recheck your torque on the pinion.

Reused the crush sleeve? Pinion bearing either too tight or too loose. See if you have any play in and out on the pinion.

Pinion shimming just plain off. Did you check the gear pattern with marking compound? If the backlash is too close this could cause you problem too.

My worry is that it was not there and now it is? So did something shift under heavy load?

If you have time to remove the pig... take some pictures of the pattern and tell us the backlash reading with a dial indicator. We will try to help figure out the trouble as long as you can posi pictures and be patient or you'll just be back in the same boat again. Jim
