i would recomend a spring upgrade atleast to a z28 spring also check seal to retainer clearance last set of heads i did did not have much clearence there you want a additional .060

yours is also vortec headed and you have a bigger cam you have a comp xe268 \/

i used to have that same vortec combo in my old mailbu and it ran great, went 10.60 in the 1000' (mid 12's in the qtr)

thats what i might end up doing but i'm cheap and i'm hoping that the low max rpm will keep me out trouble

where can you get them for $40? when you say z28 are you talking about 3rd or 4th gen camaro?

You are going to be fine with stock springs and the 204/214 cam. That engine is going to tow great. With the flat top pistons and that cam you are going to have great cylinder pressure and great throttle response. Perfect for towing especially if you are running headers. You will be very close to 400 ft/lbs. at around 3500 RPM.

Stock springs will work but who wants to run old stock worn springs on a new cam?

Pick up a bottle of EOS lube from your GM parts dealer or elsewhere if cheaper. That will help with the cam break-in.
