With those 2.42's the TC probably isn't coupling untill about 80mph in 3rd. :lol:
You may not like the rpm's while cruising with a 3.73 gear. Around 3000rpm @65mph.
3.73's would be perfect with an O/D Trans w/Lockup TC.
The 8.5" GN rear is plenty strong for what you want to do. If it has a Posi Carrier make sure the Clutches & Spider gears are in good shape as there are no parts available to rebuild these Traction Lock Carriers any longer.
You can get an Eaton or Yukon Dura-Grip Posi and 30-spline axles to upgrade them. That will make it basically strong as a 12-Bolt. Only difference would be .375" larger Ring gear in the 12-Bolt.
