Swaybar questions

Just wondering if the"F41" swaybar is the same as all rear bars?Also if there are any other known rear bars (bigger/hollow) from other vehicles that bolt to lower control arms?Thanks for any help...John

The F41 IS the rear bar. There aren't any others. At least not for the Malibu...

There were a few rear bars offered.

1978-1980 Monte Carlo V8: 19 mm
1978-1980 Monte Carlo V6: 16 mm
1981 Monte Carlo F41: 22 mm
1978-1981 Malibu F41: 22 mm

It's weird that GM didn't offer the RPO F41 for the Monte in 1980. They offered the RPO F40 "Special Heavy Duty" suspension, but all it was was higher spring rates & stiffer shocks. The Malibu F40 got the same, but also got higher durometer body & suspension bushings. :-k

I listed all the Malibu stabilizer bars in a post today about the tabilizer bar sizes. Maybe it can be made a "sticky"? Here it is again:


My 1980 Malibu Specifications Manual lists the stabilizer bars as such:

Sedans, Coupes-
V6- 25 (1.0)
V8- 27 (1.06)
RPO F41- 32 (1.26)

El Camino-
V6- 25 (1.0)
V8- 27 (1.06)
RPO F41- 29 (1.14)

Wagon-
V6- 27 (1.0)
V8- 29 (1.14)
(No RPO F41)

Rear

Sedans, Coupes & El Camino only-

RPO F41- 22 (0.866)*

*Not available with V6 or with P185/75 R14 & P195/75 R14 tires.

so guys the reason I was asking cause a local guy is selling a F41 rear swaybar for $40.Is that a decent buy?Hoping if I look at it it isn't rusted up too bad.Thanks to you all for the replies.John

I would suspect 32 mm front and 22 mm rear.

I have a Gn rear bar on my malibu. It is fat. I will measure it when I get a chance but it is definitely 1 1/4" or bigger.I had a 22m. Bar on it before.I cannot really tell a difference but it sure looks cool! Lol

It is likely an aftermarket bar. I had an aftermarket 27-mm rear bar on my wagon.
