Tire Advice Please

Can anyone give advice on good street/strip tires? Should I go with Radials or Bias-Ply? I have a 1979 Malibu with rear 15x8 (4.5BS) and front 15x5 (3.5BS), I measured the rear backspace and it looks like I have 1.25" between wheel and frame. When all is said and done, I'd like to have at least 1/2" between tire and frame. Should I go with a 255 or 275? A 26" or 28" tire? I really want to keep the car low and I don't want to make any frame or body modifications. My buddy told me to go with MT Sportsman Pro Rear 26 x 10.5 LT15 and front 26 x 7.50 -15. I mainly do street driving and plan to hit the track at least 5 times this season. As I was told by the previous owner, the car runs high 11's and I want to make sure I buy the widest tire I can fit without modifications. Thanks for your help. :?:

Personally I think the sportsman pro rear tires are junk. I would do a M/T ET Radial or a BFG if you only go to the track a couple of times and drive alot on the street. The sportsmans are great front tires though...

Go with a set of 275, they should fit with no problems. You may have to roll the fender lips a hair. Go with a radial tire if your going to be driving this car on the street a lot. The MT ET streets are a sweet tire but they will wear out quickly with street driving and are unforgiving in the rain. The BFGs arent as sticky at the track but have better street manners, stiffer sidewalls, and more or a tread for water, should you happen to get caught in the rain. The BFGs are a decent comprimise between a track tire and a street tire.

Tire Size Advice

So should I go with a 275/60/15 or a 275/50/15. Will the 26" tire look tiny on the car? Would it be okay to run radials on the rear and bias ply up front? Thanks for all your help.
