how do you tell what rear end you have? i have a 1978 malibu 2 door came originally with a 305. i assume its a 7.5 im wanting 4.10's with a posi should i keep the rear end or do something else?

if you are going to spend the money upgrade to a GN rear or Ford 9 inch.

x2^^^^that being said,,i wish i had got a 9 inch,,, i have a collection of broken 7.5 rear ends,,,,BUT,,,I am on a strict budget,,so i have to make do with what i can get,,,like 28.00 bucks on posi parts,,or my gears from ebay,,,but after the house is paid for,,we are gonna back half it,,,everytime those rear tires bark,,chirp,, over,,roll down the widow and toss a ten dollar bill,,,when it breaks ,,count up all the 10 dollar bills,,thats how much it will cost the next time,,go with 8.5,,pay now,,pay later,,but you will pay eventually,,,good luck,,cheers,,,
You can posi and get c clip eliminators. I ran 12's all day long in my last malibu 4.10 7.5 mini spool without any problems it all depends on how much you are going to put to the ground. I was on a budget and made due with what I had.
four wheel drive s-10's often have 3.73 gears with a govloc posi unit. If your not making much power it will do the trick.
dont forget, 2.73 -3.08 gear sets only work on a series 2 carrier. you need a series 3 carrier to run 3.23's and up.
