All in how you drive it

If you shock it a lot (i.e. power shifting, burnouts, etc.), it probably wouldn't live as long as if you drive it like a normal car. That being said, I haven't been easy on mine since I put the 3-speed in last year (and this year switched to a 4-speed). I have the original peg-leg 7.5 that came in the car with 2.29 gears. Gearing is currently similar to a 2004R with a 3.42 rear. I have 28" tires on the back right now, have beat on it pretty much all summer and the rear still hasn't come apart, and doesn't make any noise

I may be on borrowed time, but lots of people give the 7.5 a bad name because they beat on a factory-stock unit with original (read: 25+ years and who knows how many miles) axles/gears.
