WHAT TRANS AND WHAT POWER?

What Trans are you running and what power are you putting into it?

is anyone using a overdrive with big power? (1000 hp)

Is a power glyde the only auto trans that goes that high?

I run a th400, and my setup makes a little more than a 1000hp at the crank. If you want an overdrive I would look into doing a 2004r. I've seen guys running close to 1000hp with it built right. Although they are mostly cruisers so I dont know how well it would hold up under regular race track duty. You could also get a Gear Vendors unit for a th350 or 400. I hear their standard units are good to 1200hp, but they are kinda pricey

I am thinking I have 450-500 HP and run a TKO 600. I have beat the living snot out of the trans and it shifts great still.

It really depends on what you're doing,1000hp with street suspension and tires you can probably use any good reputable built OD auto and never have a problem,if you have a four link and big slicks and set up right and are hittin it hard all the time you'll splatter it all over the ground! That's where the aftermarket PG comes in cause they're good for up to and over 2000hp,I think Lenco can set you up with OD gears that'll handle 1000hp plus but that's a whole nuther animal! mine right now is a 350 built by the local race trans guy who swears it will be fine I was just curious what every one else is doing. I have only been down the track a couple of passes at this point just working on the tune so I havnt hit it hard yet. my set up is suposed to be around 800 right now. the next short block will be able to take more boost and should go over 1000.

I have a 4l80e and putting 650 whp to it. If you going to do a od trans over 500 hp I wouldnt do any trans but a 4l80e.

i have always run th400 for anything over 400 hp i do have a friend who has a 4l80e behind a monster big block, but he put a lot of cash out for a converter..... i was told the 4l80e is pretty much a th400 with overdrive so their super strong.
