Looking at American Racing Outlaw I wheels. Not a big selection in sizes. Wondering if a 14 x 7 with 4" back spacing will fit my Malibu. A guy at the local tire shop said they wouldn't. Front tires are 205 -70-14 Rears are 245-60-14

Those WILL fit easy, any specific reason to run a 14" wheel?

I agree. I'm running 235/60R15 front, 255/60R15 rear on 87 GM N90 Monte SS wheels. They're 15" x 7". nothing rubs. 14" wheels will really limit your choices for brake upgrades.

I'd like to go with 15" but the car is high geared enough with the 2:73s plus I just got done putting Welds on my Nova and I don't have much money to spend. Maybe I'll wait.......

As long a you change the tire profile to match the wheel size increase, your gearing won't change, because the diameter of the tire/wheel combo will be basically the same.

EXAMPLE

14" rim....P245/60R14 (25.6" tall x 9.6" wide) 14x7.0 to 14x9.0

15" rim....P235/60R15 (26.1" tall x 9.3" wide) 15x6.5 to 15x9.0

16" rim....P245/50ZR16 (25.7" tall x 9.6" wide) 16x7.0 to 16x9.0

17" rim....245/45ZR17 (25.7" tall x 9.6" wide) 17x7.0 to 17x9.0

Well, you get the picture what to look for IF you save $$$ for a rim size you won't CUSS later, plus some larger rim size tires are cheaper. 8)
