only thing i can offer is the front stock studs use a 7/16 x 20 lug i am not experienced on thread in studs but considering the stockers are pressed in the screw ins require slight mod but i would think screw ins would be safer but dont take my word for it i am sure someone will post an answer

I just went through this on the '84 (Metric). The stock stud is 610-254 (Dorman brand at any parts store). The thread is M12X1.5. The over length replacement is 610-323...roughly 1/2" longer. Same knurl diameter and length as original. I had to put them in mine for the same reason; wheel spacers. Fit like a glove and took 20 minutes to replace. Any Oreilly's or Autozone, etc. should have them in stock.

Happy hunting.

I put 7/16 x 3 studs into a 84 t-type 8.5 rear. I bought the moroso and the ARP ones. Neither worked right. I think I ended up using the arp because i still have the moroso sitting on my shelf. The arp slid into the holes perfectly but not interference fit. So what i did was use the nut and a few washers to hold them in tight then weld the back of them onto the axle flange. The axle needs to be out of the car to do this and you need to protect the bearing/seal surface from welding slag/spatter. I've been using it for 2 years like this and it worked great. I had to do something to get the long studs into my diff but its kinda permanent so i be real carefull with the threads!!

My original studs on my 85 monte were a bit short and I didnt feel there was enough contact in the nut so I looked up the size online and mistakenly found out that I needed 7/16"-20. So I ordered them only to find they didnt fit. The Knurl was .560 and the originals were smaller. Just contacted Moroso and found the correct hole dia for the .560 knurl which is 35/64" drilled out the existing holes and inserted the new studs as prairiehotrodder did with the washers and impact gun to seat them and it worked perfectly. The new longer studs make mounting the wheels much easier and are much better quality then the originals. I used Moroso part # 46160, 7/16"-20 x 2 7/8" Hope this helps.

OH, By the way the only way to install the longer studs was to remove the brake shoes to get access to the dimple in the backing plate to get them in so I ended up replacing the shoes, springs and pins and the wheel cylinders while I had it all apart. once again a simple stud change turned into a major upgrade but Im sure it worked out for the better.
