If the Trans is in good shape it should hold up fine. A Shift Kit and External Trans Cooler is always a good idea.
Your Cam selection, Rear Gear etc.. will determine what Stall rating the TC needs.

A stock TH350 in good internal condition will provide good performance and reliability with a stock or mildly modified 5.3 engine. A TransGo shift improvement kit is a good investment, as well as a decent size external fluid cooler. The shift improvement kit will provide a firmer, faster shift which will help reduce slippage and improve the life of the friction materials in the transmission. Our GM25 torque converter is a great choice with a stock or mildly modified 5.3. This is a 12" converter with an advertised stall speed rating of 2,500 RPM. Depending on rear axle ratio, rear tire size, and vehicle weight, this converter will typically provide 2,000 - 2,200 RPM of actual stall speed with an engine such as yours. We also offer the TransGo kit under part number 350-2, as well as flexplate part number HP4004X and pilot adapter part number HP3795.
